Power of the Moon

Furious day: the morning was hot, and I spent it breaking down trimmings from the shrub. The greenery went into the planting bed we will top-off tomorrow with soil, for the vegetables. The rest yielded a full barrel of kindling for evening fires this summer.

There was a rabbit in the front bed, which caught the cat's attention through the window.

This evening we opened the curtains to discover the sunny afternoon had transformed into a raging dust storm. The wind howled and the air was thick with particles, as though a fog had descended or a heavy rain. Yet we knew there was not a cloud in the sky.

As it ebbed I saw a rabbit in the overgrown backyard, sitting in the thick green grass, eating. Perhaps the same rabbit from the morning, perhaps not.

Meanwhile, a tornado outbreak tore across the southern part of the state.

The new album by Ms. Ezra Furman released today.
